The frightfully fun and pandemic-friendly ‘Halloween for Hospice Car Rally’ resulted in a fang-tastic time for more than 65 participants and several spook-tacular volunteers who helped raise $9,146 in support of the future Hospice Quinte Care Centre. The event, held on Saturday, October 24th, challenged participants to locate and visit twelve secret checkpoint locations, at Belleville area businesses, using only the set of clues provided. Other Car Rally features included a bake sale, blind auction, checkpoint raffles, ‘trick or treat’ swag bags and 2 separate 50/50 draws.
Congratulations to Orange 50/50 ticket winner (#80401), Breanne Carr-Braint, who collected $225, and to Red 50/50 ticket winner (#250127), Pat Koets, who collected $200 and generously donated her prize back to the Heart & Home Building Campaign.
“Bringing awareness to Hospice Quinte and the new Hospice Quinte Care Centre, as well as local businesses, was our goal, and I certainly believe our goal was achieved”, says Shelby MacPherson of County Bus Service, the Hospice Quinte volunteer behind the idea for the event. “Many not-for-profits and local businesses have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the `Halloween for Hospice Car Rally’ was a fun and safe way to raise funds, generate awareness and literally drive traffic to local businesses who were eager to participate.”
The success of the ‘Halloween For Hospice Car Rally’ would not be possible without event committee members, Shelby MacPherson (County Bus Service Limited), Colleen DeMille, Michelle Brown (Teamwork Promotions) and Shannon DeMille (Pathways To Independence), each of the volunteers who so generously donated their time, and all of the participating businesses – Royal Plumbing, Aaron Auto, The Banquet Centre, Beaudrie Bus Lines, Beaudrie Excavating, County Bus Service, Darryl Dasilva – CIBC Wood Gundy, Donini Chocolate, Downtown Julie Brown’s, Farmer’s Daughter Sub Shoppe, Foxboro Foodland, Green Acres Irrigation & Lighting, Grills Orchard, Hopkins Garage, ITS, Lafferty’s Crossing, Live Love & Laugh, MacIntyre Financial, Maunco Cleaning Supplies, Metro, Moira River Foods, Noronco Sheet Metal, Quinte Air Supply, Teamwork Promotions, The Brake Room, Wilson Flooring Centre, and the YMCA.
“We are so appreciative to Shelby MacPherson and her team for taking on the initiative to plan such a fantastic community event on our behalf,” says Jennifer May-Anderson, Hospice Quinte Executive Director. “We are overjoyed by the success of the event and cannot express our gratitude enough to all of the participants, volunteers and businesses who came together to raise over $9,000 in support of the Hospice Quinte Care Centre – thank you for helping us ‘Make It Happen’.”
