Visiting Hospice

Hospice Quinte’s Visiting Hospice service provides support to individuals who are in the terminal stage of a life limiting illness. Volunteers will visit with a palliative patient and provide respite to their caregiver so they can attend to their own needs.

Our volunteers can provide up to four hours of service each week, to be scheduled as needed. They provide social, emotional, and practical support to the patient and their family, friends, and caregivers. Visits can be made in homes, hospitals, long-term care facilities, and retirement residences.

Hospice Quinte volunteers are trained and understand the importance of dignity, independence, confidentiality, beliefs, choices, faith and culture.

The goal of hospice palliative care is to improve the quality of life for patients and their families facing the issues associated with life threatening illness. A family can include relatives, partners and friends. Our services help people who are terminally ill to live out their remaining time in comfort and with dignity.

Our services are provided free of charge to residents in our service area. Hospice Quinte serves Quinte West, Belleville, Deseronto, Tyendinaga Township, and the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.

Hospice Quinte will continue to provide in-home hospice visiting support unless asked to suspend services by public health or other government directive.

Volunteers will follow Hospice Quinte’s Infection Prevention & Control Policy when volunteering. In addition, both the client and the volunteer will undergo COVID-19 screening, and volunteers will wear a mask when physical distancing isn’t possible.
