(L-R): Sandi Ramsay (Hospice Quinte Donor Relations Manager), Jennifer May-Anderson (Hospice Quinte Executive Director), Benn and Zachary Spiegel (son and grandson of Sidney & Naomi Spiegel).

Family of Sidney & Naomi Spiegel proudly presented Hospice Quinte with a gift of $250K today, in support of the future Hospice Quinte Care Centre. Sidney Spiegel, Founder and Chairman of the Board, of Crawford Steel, is well-known for boosting economic viability across the Quinte Region and sharing the wealth with local charitable organizations by supporting key community projects.

“Our family has deep roots here in the Quinte Region,” says Benn Spiegel, son of Sidney and Naomi. “We are very proud to support the Heart & Home Building Campaign and congratulate Hospice Quinte for its dedication to providing world-class palliative care for our community.”

“Thanks to the Spiegel Family’s incredible generosity, we have now achieved 80% of our $9.5M capital campaign goal,” says Hospice Quinte Executive Director, Jennifer May-Anderson. “Reaching this exciting milestone reminds us how very fortunate we are to live in a community where caring for those in need is embraced with enthusiasm and pride, and we are eternally grateful for the kindness of our compassionate donors.”

The new facility is required to meet the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care space and design standards, as well as infection control standards – the same standards hospitals must adhere to. It must also have appropriate space to permit the moving of hospital beds throughout the building.

Along with the six private client suites, the new 10,947 square foot Hospice Quinte Care Centre will accommodate a wide variety of needs. The building design and décor will provide a very family- oriented atmosphere featuring important gathering spaces, bright sunrooms, quiet rooms for privacy and a dining room designed with families in mind.

Upon occupancy of the new Centre, Hospice Quinte’s existing programs, services and support groups will operate in the multi-purpose rooms, while a nursing station and medical services area will accommodate professional staff. The administrative wing will include staff offices and dedicated space for student interns and volunteers. The Centre has also been designed to allow for an additional four beds in the future.

The Spiegel Family’s quarter-million-dollar gift will be recognized by naming a large section of the Centre that is slated to house critical hospice support services and dedicated family spaces as the Sidney & Naomi Spiegel Community Wing.
