Hospice Quinte celebrated a milestone year that included the opening of its Stan Klemencic Care Centre, during the organization’s 2022 Annual General Meeting on June 20, 2022.
Executive Director Jennifer May-Anderson said, “We have had such an amazing year. The opening of the Stan Klemencic Care Centre was a historic moment for Hospice Quinte and the communities we serve. We were able to achieve that dream while continuing to provide the important and necessary community hospice services we have been doing for over thirty-five years.”
May-Anderson added, “In the first six months of operation the Stan Klemencic Care Centre has served seventy-nine residents and their families. Last year we also provided over one-thousand supportive phone calls in the community, along with hundreds of in-home visits and over 2,500 hours of care in people’s homes.”
As part of the evening’s celebration, outgoing Hospice Quinte President, Bill MacKay, presented volunteers for the organization’s former Heart and Home Building Campaign with Community Spirit Awards in recognition of their ongoing support and dedication to Hospice Quinte. He also presented a post-humous award to Heather Williams in honour of her late husband, John Williams, who had co-chaired the campaign prior to his death in February 2022.
Incoming Board President, Kim Lander, duly recognized retired and retiring board members Michael Piercy, Sue Thoms, Lisa Campbell, Shari Pinault, Jeff Tureski, and Bill MacKay for their many years of service.
The Hospice Quinte Board welcomed new board members Joseph Belanger, Kate Gardner, Marian Henson, and Tim Weaver. Kim Lander will serve as the President, Stan Dafoe as Vice President, Karinda Dockrill as Treasurer, and Susan Barberstock as Secretary for the 2022-2023 year.
The evening wrapped up with the exciting launch of Hospice Quinte’s new annual fundraising initiative dubbed “The Comfort of Home Campaign”. With a budget of $1.6M this year, Hospice Quinte will be working to raise $500K to assist with operations, including the essential services of its Stan Klemencic Care Centre.
