For anyone who wants to understand how care is funded, delivered, and sustained in our region, the report provides a clear picture of what community-funded hospice care makes possible.
Annual General Meeting 2026 highlights
The 2025–2026 fiscal year marked an important milestone for Hospice Quinte. This year, we officially broke ground on our four-bed residence expansion through the More Heart. More Home. campaign. When complete, the expansion will increase capacity at the Stan Klemencic Care Centre from six beds to ten, helping meet the growing need for hospice palliative care across the Quinte region.
Throughout the year, Hospice Quinte also continued to strengthen community programs, expand bereavement services, and advance accreditation efforts to ensure the highest standards of care across all programs and services.
As Executive Director Petra LePage shared in her report, the year was defined by gratitude. We have gratitude for the staff, volunteers, Board of Directors, donors, and community partners whose support makes this work possible.
Supporting families through every stage of the journey
Hospice Quinte provides support through four core program areas:
- Hospice Residence
- In-Home Hospice Support
- Caregiver Support
- Grief and Bereavement Wellness
Together, these programs help individuals and families navigate some of life’s most difficult moments with dignity, empathy, and respect.
During the 2025–2026 fiscal year, Hospice Quinte supported:
- 83 community palliative clients
- 158 grief and bereavement clients
- 35 caregiver clients
Hospice Quinte is free for every family. That care exists because of community funding alongside provincial support.
Responding to growing community needs
The need for hospice palliative care continues to grow across our region. As highlighted in the AGM report, Hospice Quinte faces several challenges, including:
- Increasing demand for hospice residence beds
- An aging population, with seniors representing approximately 24% of the local population
- A significant veteran population
- Increasing complexity in palliative care needs
- Individuals dying while waiting for access to their preferred place of care
These realities are driving the expansion of the Stan Klemencic Care Centre and continued investment in community-based hospice services.
Innovation and growth
More Heart. More Home.
The four-bed expansion project continued to move forward, including plans for a dedicated Veterans Suite to better serve the region’s military and veteran community.
Accreditation journey
Hospice Quinte began Hospice Palliative Care Ontario residence and community visiting accreditation work to strengthen quality and excellence across all programs and services.
Children’s grief support
Thanks to funding from the Alva Foundation, Hospice Quinte began work to offer grief and bereavement support groups for children and teens.
Community-funded care in action
Every day, families turn to Hospice Quinte for support, comfort, and compassionate care. Yet only a portion of operating costs are covered through Ontario Health funding.
Community support helps bridge the gap and ensures hospice palliative care, caregiver support, and bereavement services remain accessible to local families.
Throughout the year, community fundraising initiatives helped make that possible, including:
- Hike for Hospice
- Hospice Quinte Golf Tournament
- Casino Royale
- Loved Ones Program
- Smile Cookie Campaign
- Day of Care
- Caregiver Expo
Every dollar raised helps keep care available for the next family who needs it.
Looking ahead
As Hospice Quinte enters a new year, our focus remains clear:
- Completing the residence expansion project
- Advancing accreditation
- Strengthening community partnerships
- Expanding access to hospice palliative care across the region
Together, we will continue providing care for changing lives.
To every donor, volunteer, staff member, healthcare partner, and supporter who contributed to this year’s progress: thank you. Because of you, local families continue to receive compassionate care, caregiver support, and grief services when they need them most.
